Josh Lindblom re-set his season by deciding that less can be more. Josh Lindblom. Then, the feel comes later.”. He accepted, beginning a five-year run (interrupted briefly by a stint with the Pirates in 2017) in which Lindblom went 63-34 with a 3.55 ERA for Lotte and Doosan. But after harnessing a split-fingered fastball and dominating the league in each of the past two seasons, Major League teams, including the Brewers, opened their doors again. “I’m not getting any younger,” Lindbloom said. Now, after a second consecutive September in the major leagues, the versatile outfielder is showing he could be a viable backup for the Brewers moving forward. He accepted, beginning a five-year run (interrupted briefly by a stint with the Pirates in 2017) in which Lindblom went 63-34 with a 3.55 ERA for Lotte and Doosan. Lindblom’s wife, Aurielle, was about to give birth to the couple’s first child when the opportunity in Asia first presented itself in 2014. Understandably, his results on the mound were mixed. © 2020 www.jsonline.com. There’s nothing more I need to do.”. "He goes out there every day, he's the same guy every day. A little over a year ago, Tyrone Taylor was known as the minor-leaguer who turned down a job with FedEx to accept an unexpected September call-up from the Brewers. (Friday), my job is to do what I’ve done in these last two starts. Most importantly, we hope it's a healthy birth and that he gets there on time. "He's off, hopefully he gets there safely. "The players not on our active roster, keeping them ready is challenging," Counsell said. He led all starters with a 0.997 WHIP, due in large part to an incredibly stingy 1.3 BB/9 rate, once again tops among the league’s initial out-getters. Hello there, Josh Lindblom splitter. All rights reserved. It was probably going to happen at some point this week. He was selected off waivers by the Pirates that December, but was granted his release less than two weeks later. 450 likes. It still counts as one. Statistics courtesy of Fangraphs and Baseball-Reference, MLB Trade Rumors posts arbitration estimates for the Milwaukee Brewers, led by Josh Hader at up to $6.8 million. With a wide repertoire of pitches, he decided to boil them down and focus on fastball command – the basis of success for any pitcher. Fangraphs did note that Lindblom’s proven durability could make him useful at the back of a starting rotation, and Stearns has already committed to beginning 2020 with his latest import in an initial out-getter role. Lindblom bounced around the league with the Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, and Athletics until the end of 2014. In 2018, the starting staff was anchored by Jhoulys Chacin and pushed over the top by late-summer contributions from Wade Miley and Gio Gonzalez. In reality, he was summoned from a hotel in Milwaukee, where extra players were placed in quarantine Wednesday to protect against coronavirus if needed as the postseason approaches. But because of the differences in the quality of his opponents as well as the baseball itself, there are looming questions as to just how well Lindblom’s abilities will translate back to Major League Baseball. He won the league’s ERA title in 2018 with a 2.88 mark across 168.2 innings and posted the best full-season strikeout (8.4 K/9) and walk (2.0 BB/9) rates to that point in his KBO career. Lindblom responded with two hitless appearances of one inning each but the real key was this: no walks allowed. Lindblom had 24 hours to decide. “The focus is to go out and make pitches, keep it really simple,” he said. "It's a 60-game season and he has (37) plate appearances, but this is an important time for Tyrone and he's shown that he belongs," Counsell said. One thing that we must keep in mind when considering Lindblom’s impressive statistics, however, is that the top players in Korea generally have a talent level equivalent to that of Eric Thames — who was referred to as “God” during his time in the KBO. So it’d likely be a folly to expect the 32 year old (33 next June) to immediately contend for All-Star games and Cy Young awards now that he’s back in MLB. As the league’s lone 20-game winner, he took home both the top pitcher and Most Valuable Player awards. He has a smile on his face and he's going to compete. If not, a $2.75 mil multi-inning reliever is only slightly more than what Matt Albers earned for the past two years, and that shouldn’t be something that holds the team back in any significant way. One of his daughters, Monroe, was born with a heart defect and has required multiple surgeries. The Brewers traded away nearly 300 innings in sending Chase Anderson to Toronto and Zach Davies to San Diego in deals meant to maximize payroll, and also lost second-half star Jordan Lyles to free agency. The Brewers won’t need Lindblom to replicate his KBO production in order to justify his $2.75 mil annual salary, but they are surely hoping that he can at least come close to replacing the generally steady innings eaten up by the now-departed Chase Anderson over the previous four seasons. His 81-83 MPH splitter, too, excels in terms of spin rate. Lindblom eager for new opportunity with Crew, finalized a three-year contract with Milwaukee. Indeed, the Brewers are well-positioned in the outfield moving forward with Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain and Avisaíl García entrenched from left to right at least for 2021. As the best pitcher on the league’s best team, he was awarded as with the KBO’s equivalent to the Cy Young award.
